Description

Marking students course work was one of the few things Cynthia didn't like about teaching; for her it was all about the interactions with young, impressionable pupils that made her life so rich and fulfilled. Nothing pleased her more than bringing a love of physics to some previously disinterested young girl.

It was this that led her to become a supply teacher, substituting for a term at a time for absent teachers. Not that she didn't get plenty of offers to stay permanently, but she enjoyed meeting new girls each term and seeing them become entranced with the subject, and, more often than not, Cynthia herself.

She had just started at St Jude's School for Girls, a rather stuffy institution, which was why she was wearing a black skirt and white blouse, as dictated by the headmistress; she had however stretched the rule almost to breaking point.

Rachel Clarke knocked on the door to the classroom adjacent to hers with no small amount trepidation. She was simply being a good colleague, hoping to make friends. "Come in." Answered a soothing, yet authoritative voice from beyond the door. Rachel opened the door slowly, her nervous disposition winning over the confident demeanour she displayed to her pupils, and couldn't help being slightly taken aback by the sight of the woman she'd come to meet.
